Term 3, week 3 and 4 in Room 2...

Week 4:

Whew!!! Another super busy and fun week in Room 2!

This week we present our speeches, with finalists competing next week against other selected year 7 and 8s from Rooms 1 and 3.  Good luck everyone!! :)

On Tuesday night our very talented Iona represented the school in the school Rockband at the Bandquest competition in Hamilton.  Out of hundreds of bands, we made the top 18 to compete on the night - and what a night it was!  The band sang 2 songs - and Ms Trow was very proud to be in the audience yelling for the band.  Here's a picture of Iona with the band.

Well done Iona, and band - we're super proud of you all!  You guys rocked!!!! :)

Then on Wednesday afternoon we held our school Cross Country.  Well done to all who raced - you should be very proud of yourselves!!  Here are some photos from the Mokena House stand - the loudest, best house there - but I may be a little biased :)

On Friday we are doing our dance assembly item.  Hope to see you there :)

Week 3:

This week we will continue our cross country trainings on Tuesday and Thursday - please remember your running shoes and a change of clothes (the mud does not make for a pleasant smell in the classroom!!), and also our cheer practises (Tuesday and Thursday afternoons).  Home learning will be emailed tomorrow, with writing:  to finish our speeches (if we haven't already!!) and bring them as cue cards to practise in class.  This week we will practise our speeches in class ready for the class finals next week!!! :)  Will be exciting as the topics are really interesting and diverse :)

We have started our Olympic projects - following a member of the NZ Olympic team in their bids for Gold in Rio...  watch this space as we finish our projects and have them on display.  They will include information and photos of our athlete as well as some interactive sections, and an ongoing tally of their successes :)

On Monday we had a visit by awesome illustrator Bruce Potter.  Here's a link to his website if you want to see more of his awesome work:  http://www.brucepotter.co.nz/

He showed the Senior classes how he creates starting with just a blank screen (he uses a cool computer package to create on).  In his time with us he created an awesome doodle creature - special to our Seniors as we decided what types of creatures would be included in the overall doodle.  When he's finished touring NZ schools he'll put together a book of all his class doodles - but ours is the coolest!!

He talked through his cool book "Doodle Bug" and sung us through his funny picture book "Penny the prolific pooing cow" - these are on his website too.

What a cool visit!!  Bruce showed us how using our imaginations gives us infinite and fun ideas and creativity.  :)

We had a special assembly this week with a visit from the NED team.  Ned stands for Never give up, Encourage others, Do your best!!  The show is based on building positive self-image and academic ability.  The presenters use yo-yo skills, balloon tricks and magic through their show - it was awesome and fun to watch... and our own Claudine from Room 2 won a special yo-yo and balloon hat!!  Well done Claudine!! :)

Yo-yos and accessories are for sale this week at the office before school - and money raised "pays it forward" to pay for the show to be at another school - which is how we were lucky enough to have the NED show visit Stanley Ave! :)
